Corellas wreak havoc across the state!

The Little Corella and Galah are known to cause:

  • damage to electrical cabling,
  • chew new vine shoots,
  • sports playing surfaces,
  • forage in newly sown crops,
  • serious defoliation to trees
  • as well as buildings and other assets.

While number are generally declining for woodland birds predominantly due to deforestation, Corella numbers are on the rise. Councils and Schools have to recognise these birds are now in growing numbers on the Adelaide plains and besides all the damage and noise are impacting other species.

Corellas and Galah are not and should not be targeted with the aim to completely  destroy the entire flock. These birds are pretty bright. What they need is a good reason to move on. Targeted shooting of the problem early in the arrival of scout flocks can help to minimise damage and noise in built up areas.

Selective targeting carried out on a planned routine is the best way to keep these birds properly managed. And the cost to do so compared to the damage a large flock can have in a short time is a very small percentage by comparison.
